This page explains who owns what on LooksFormula: our site, your photos, and the report we make for you. The last part is the one most people are actually asking about, so it is answered plainly rather than left vague.

1. The short version

  • Your photos stay yours. Uploading one does not give us ownership of it.
  • Your report is yours to use - keep it, print it, post it, take it to a salon.
  • The site itself is ours - the design, the writing, and the system that produces the reports.
  • If you think we have used something of yours without permission, tell us and we will act on it. Section 8 says how.

2. What we own

LooksFormula owns the site and everything we made to build it: the page design and layout, the written content, the illustrations and example images we publish, our name and logo, and the system that analyzes a photo and produces a report. This is the same ownership described in section 8 of our Terms of Service; this page just sets out the detail.

You are welcome to read the site, quote a short passage with a link back, and share our pages. You may not copy the site wholesale, republish our written content as your own, or scrape it to build or train a competing product.

3. What you own - your photos

You keep ownership of every photo you upload. You give us permission to store and process it for one purpose only - producing your report - and that permission ends when the photo is deleted, within 24 hours of the report being ready. We do not use your photos to train AI models, ours or anyone else's, and we do not use them in marketing without asking you first.

This only works if the photo is yours to give. Upload photographs of yourself, not of friends, family or public figures - the reasons are in the Acceptable Use Policy, and they are about the person in the picture, not just about copyright.

4. Your report, and the images inside it

Your report is yours to use, for anything, including commercially, with no attribution required. Print it, send it to a stylist, post the palette on social media, use the images however you like.

We want to be straight about what that permission is and is not. The images in your report are generated by AI models, not photographed. In most countries copyright protects work created by a person, and it is genuinely unsettled whether an image produced by a model from a prompt attracts copyright at all - and if it does, who holds it. Rather than pretend otherwise, we do two things:

  • We give you the broadest permission we can to use your report and its images, without limit or fee.
  • We do not claim we can stop anyone else using a similar or identical output, because we may have no right to. If a copyright in those images exists at all, we are not asserting one against you.

What we do keep is the system: the prompts, models, templates, palettes and code that produced the report. Having a report does not give you a licence to those.

5. Sharing your report

Yes - share it. Post the images, screenshot the palette, tag us or don't. Two small requests, and they are requests rather than conditions: do not present a generated image as a photograph of a real result, and do not edit a report to make it look like we said something we did not.

6. The people you see on this site

The faces in our examples, before-and-after images and demonstration reports are either generated by AI and not real people, or real people whose images we use with their permission. They are not customers whose reports we have published without asking. If you believe a photograph of you appears on this site, email us and we will remove it while we check - we will not ask you to prove it first.

7. Brand and product names

Our reports sometimes name cosmetics, hair colors, brands or retailers so a recommendation is actually usable. Those names and trademarks belong to their owners. We use them to identify a product, nothing more - we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of them unless a page says so explicitly.

8. If you think we have used your work

Email admin@looksformula.com with the subject line Copyright. To let us act quickly, include:

  • What the work is, and where the original can be seen.
  • The page on LooksFormula where you believe it appears - a URL, not a description.
  • Your name and a contact email.
  • A statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized by you, your agent, or the law.
  • A statement that the information you have given is accurate, and that you are the rights holder or authorized to act for them.

We aim to reply within five working days. Where a complaint looks well-founded we will normally take the material down first and discuss it afterwards. If you disagree with something we have removed, reply to the same thread and tell us why.

9. If you think someone has copied us

We would like to know. Send the URL to admin@looksformula.com. This applies particularly to sites reproducing our written guides or presenting our example images as their own work.

10. Law

This page is governed by the law of New Zealand, in line with section 13 of the Terms of Service. If you are a consumer elsewhere, that does not deprive you of protections that apply where you live.
